Nina has a long history of contributing to the Shoalhaven after being involved in many community groups. She has contributed over the years at the Illaroo Road Public School as President of the P&C and Vice President and Convener of the Southern Branch Representative Football Club, Life skills education, Allied Health network, Shoalhaven professional business Association and Transformative Education programs.
Nina is the eldest of eight children having grown up in south western Sydney in an Italian family. Her interests include music, dancing, playing guitar and she is an avid runner clocking up 8-10 kms a day. She is passionate about health and wellbeing and particularly helping people with social, emotional and physical health issues. She has two adult children making their own contribution to the community they love.
Nina has extensive experience as a Registered Nurse for 30 years after studying in Sydney for her Nursing Diploma. She is passionate about the health and well-being of communities and is a strong advocate for wellbeing outcomes in the health space. Since moving to the Shoalhaven in 2004 she has provided services in Aged Care, Aboriginal Health, Stroke Unit author at the local hospital and Health Education across many disciplines. Her background as a Nurse is expansive ranging from cardiology, Emergency Nursing, Intensive Care, Burns care, community and home visiting Nurse, Operating Theatres, Indigenous Health project officer under COAG’s Closing the Gap project, and currently works in the field of Neurology as a Parkinson’s Nurse Clinical Nurse Consultant in the Shoalhaven, employed by Parkinson’s NSW.
Nina has been a Greens Councillor for over three years sitting on Shoalhaven City Council. Her portfolio lies in Health, Indigenous Rights, Climate Change and Infrastructure that promotes wellbeing in communities. She has particularly advocated for cycle ways, green spaces, and healthy cities including smoke free CBD’s. She is also has been the chairperson of the Inclusion and Access Advisory Committee advocating for people with disabilities and their carers. Nina also sits on the Board of Directors of the Nowra Local Aboriginal land council project, allowing her to advocate and support Indigenous self determination.
She believes that Governments need to be investing in people and providing resources and support to ensure people living in our country have access to opportunities and services such as Education, Health care, employment, transport and housing. When governments invest in people they produce big returns in contributions back to the community through acts of kindness, caring , integrity and overall improved wellbeing that builds resilient and efficient communities. A world that values people over profits is a world worth living in and a place where future generations can blossom!
Her latest mission will take her to the middle east because she understands the world does not stop in the Shoalhaven. Our community extends well beyond ourselves and opening our hearts to our fellow humans suffering as a result of political unrest. It is a responsibility we must share collectively. She looks forward to sharing her skills and knowledge in the Health arena when she travels to the Middle East and looks forward to sharing the experience as a volunteer nurse in the middle east with Australia on her return.
